TONY MONTE has accompanied and/or arranged for many of the best performers in concert and on recordings. He is the music director of the New York Festivals Awards Shows and the Drama League Salutes series. Tony was music director for the premiere performances of Lincoln Center's American Songbook, New York Emmy Awards Shows and The Jonathan Schwartz Show, a television variety series for the Madison Square Garden Entertainment Network. Tony composed the music for the Emmy Award-winning comedy series The Madhouse Brigade and received the Silver Award for Original Music from the International Film and Television Festival of New York for the feature All Those Beautiful Girls. For Walt Disney Productions, Tony produced and arranged music for Disney World's EPCOT Center and his orchestrations have been used on numerous radio and television commercials. He has been a featured guest on Marian McPartland's NPR program Piano Jazz. Tony was pianist for the nightly radio program New York Tonight and The Steve Allen Radio Show, both on WNEW radio in New York.
Tony was born in New York City. He studied music in the Preparatory Division of The Juilliard School, received his B.S. and M.S. from St. John's University and attended Indiana University. He was an adjunct lecturer of music history at Pace University and a governor of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Tony Monte has accompanied singers as diverse as Peggy Lee, Johnny Hartman, Sylvia Syms, Marilyn Sokol, Tyne Daley, Martha Raye, Rosemary Clooney, Jack Jones, Helen Merrill, John Pizzarelli, Judy Garland, Arthur Prysock, Tiny Tim, Claiborne Carey, Jonathan Schwartz, Spider Saloff, Mary Cleere Haran, Susannah McCorkle, Betty Johnson, Joni James, Margaret Whiting, Helen O'Connell, Julius LaRosa and Lillias White.
On radio or television he has worked with Mel Torme, Tony Bennett, Judy Collins, Linda Ronstadt, Annie Ross and Carly Simon, among others.
As a soloist, Tony has been heard extensively on radio including WNEW, WQEW, WQXR, WNYC, XM Satellite, NPR, and frequently on such daytime TV serials as All My Children, As The World Turns and Another World.
He has had extended engagements in such New York hotels as The Stanhope, The Plaza, The St. Regis, The Four Seasons, The Carlyle, The Intercontinental and for many years he performed at the Cafe Pierre as pianist with the legendary Bucky Pizzarelli Trio. |
